Plan Your Technology

Accessibility

Make room for different ways of working.

People use technology, communicate and navigate information in different ways. Accessibility begins by recognizing those differences and making it easier for people to participate in the work and the recruiting process.

Accessibility / In practice

A barrier is a reason to listen and improve.

Benchmark’s published approach includes welcoming feedback about its digital experiences and requests for reasonable accommodation during recruiting. Practical improvements can begin with clearer instructions, a usable document or a conversation about an alternative way to complete a step.

Everyday choices

What this means for the work.

01

Communicate clearly

Use understandable language, meaningful labels and instructions that explain the next action. Important information should be available as text.

02

Build with different interactions in mind

Consider keyboard navigation, readable contrast and content that works on smaller screens. Review the actual experience rather than assuming one interface works for everyone.

03

Offer a conversation

If a recruiting step presents a barrier, tell us what part of the process needs attention. An initial accommodation request does not need to include a medical history.

A closer look

The interview should make room for the conversation.

If the format of an application or interview prevents you from taking part, contact Benchmark to discuss the step involved and an appropriate adjustment. Please avoid sending sensitive medical or identity information in an initial email.

What to expect

Accessibility continues after a page is published.

Feedback can identify a problem that automated checks miss. When reporting a website barrier, include the page and the action you were trying to complete, along with a safe way for the team to follow up.
